JoyceDeWitt began performing on stage at the age of 13. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University. During her summer stock performance she was persuaded by the director to attend UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt said she never met actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She worked as a secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt's role as Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-84 season is the one that made her the most well-known. She was cast in the pilot episode of the show and later selected. She also played Janet in an episode from 1979 on the spinoff show The Ropers. DeWitt began her acting career in an episode of 1984 of Three's Company. The actress returned to acting in the role in the production of Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse in June 1991. One of her roles was in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain featured the character inspired by her voice, which was performed by another actress in 1997. The actress appeared in an episode of Cybill, and had an appearance in the penultimate episode of Living Single. [6] Her 2000s works includes TV shows such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
