Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a public speaking event organizer. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency an online platform that includes videos and commentary on portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. She is the founder as well as the executive director for Feminist Frequency an educational not-for-profit website that focuses on the role of women within popular cultural narratives. Destroying stereotypes about women are her main focus. She also wants to highlight things like targeting and bullying of women online. With a master's in political and social thought from York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after presenter and has presented speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Sarkeesian was fascinated by gender issues and feminism since at a very young age. When she was in 2009, she was still at university, Sarkeesian launched the website Feminist Frequency. The woman with ambitions to begin a web series examining gender representation in video games. However, she found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. The attack did not stop her, but instead strengthened her determination as a feminist critic of media. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards to recognize her significant contributions to the world of feminism.
